Cletis Allen, 89, of Amarillo, went Home on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Dr. with Pastor Bryan Vallance of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Cletis was born April 19, 1930 in Hunt County to Maudie and Vernon Allen. He married Nora Joyce Holbert on February 24, 1954 in Memphis, Texas. He started out playing the guitar and traveling the country with different bands. He even sat in with Hank Williams many occasions. He was one of the musicians chosen to record Your Cheating Heart. He worked as a farmer, then as a custodian at West Texas State University, and later at the Texas Highway Department in Canyon. He retired from WTSU but went to work for Lowes, retiring again in 2003. Cletis loved the Lord with all his heart. When he would read the Bible, he would say “That sure is a good book”. He loved his family and was always so proud of them. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Cletis was a member of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Stratton and husband Donald of Amarillo; a son, Jimmy Allen, Sr. and wife Candice of Altus, OK; three grandchildren, Jimmy Allen, Jr. and wife Delilah and Aleshia Cardenas and husband Joe all of Amarillo, and John Allen of Odessa; five great-grandchildren, Marcus Allen, Jaylee Allen, Reagan Allen, Lily Cardenas and Carine Cardenas; and a host of other friends and relatives.
