Jerry Wayne Cook

Jerry Wayne Cook age 76 years 2 months and 24 days passed away Thursday November 14, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday November 18, 2019 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, with Mark England officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday November 17, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Jerry was born September 21, 1943 in Shamrock, TX to Worthy Cook and Mary Elizabeth Tonguet Cook. He married Linda Ritchie on May 25, 1963 in Lutie, TX. Jerry was a high school graduate going right into the building trade that he had grown up loving. He worked for Walter-Wirtz and Paige-Wirtz Construction Company. Other jobs along the way were owning his own janitorial service and construction business. This resulted in many homes and businesses being repaired and added on to. He built the Red Lobster Restaurant both here in Amarillo and Lubbock and finished the west section of Bell Hillside Shopping Center after his brother passed away. He worked for Hastings Entertainment Stores as service and maintenance both in Texas and the Oklahoma panhandle. As their stores shut down he worked in that same capacity for the U-Haul Stores. Jerry retired at 62 to take care of his own property. He raised calves, pigs, chickens and grew big gardens, he was a farmer at heart. Jerry fought three rounds of cancer. He was a fighter!

Jerry is survived by his wife Linda of the home; daughter Patricia Horn of Amarillo; son Jeff Cook and wife Brenda of Amarillo; daughter Susan Heath and husband Howard of Amarillo and sister Marilyn Bradley and husband Scooter of Wichita Falls.  He is survived by eleven grandchildren Drew, Chase, Beth, Jerry, Amber, Eric, Jasmine, Bryanna, Samantha, Michael and Jennifer and seven great grandchildren Elaina, Emily and Everleigh Ivens; Adler and Elliott Horn; Makayla and Malaya Vaughn.

He is preceded in death by his parents Worthy and Mary Elizabeth Cook; brothers W. R. Cook, W.D. Cook,  Vernon Lee Cook; sisters Lee Sebring, LaVerne Kavanaugh, Glenda Prouty and Carolyn Jones; grandson James Forest Heath and his beloved ever faithful walking companion for 13 years his dog Millie. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
