Jessica Jo Groomer-Smith, 43, of Amarillo, died December 25, 2019. Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Jessica was born July 21, 1976 in Amarillo to Jonne and Cindy Groomer. She attended Tascosa High School, and earned her BA in Mathematics from Texas Tech University. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Mathematics from West Texas A&M University. She married Brian Smith on December 14, 2009. Jessica worked as a research analyst for WTAMU for the last five years. Previously, she taught at Edmonds College in Seattle, Washington, and Amarillo College, where she also worked in institute research. She enjoyed studying aquatic animals and raising sea horses. She contributed photos to the recently published science book, Frog Fishes: Biodiversity in Zoogeography. She enjoyed playing darts and adored dogs. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and her mother, Cindy Groomer-Warner. Survivors include her husband, Brian Smith; her son, Jonathan Smith of the home; her father, Jonne Groomer and step-mother, Janet of Amarillo; two brothers, Jon Groomer and wife Torie, and Logan Funderburk and wife Brittany all of Amarillo; three nieces, Macie and Allie Groomer and Oaklee Funderburk; and two nephews, Cohen Funderburk and Keith Stuard.
