Mernon Stephens, 79 of Amarillo died January 1st, 2020 in his home with his wife by his side. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday January 7th, 2019 at Cox-Rowley Funeral home Chapel with Pastor Dale Moreland Officiating.
Mernon was born December 10th, 1940 in Dickens, TX to Woodrow and Edith Stephens. He grew up in Amarillo, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1959. Mernon would later marry his sweetheart Carolyn on October 6th, 1962 in Amarillo where they would make their home. Mernon and Carolyn just celebrated 57 years of marriage. He worked in dairy productions for 44 years and retired as a plant supervisor; most of his time was spent with Borden’s Dairy in Amarillo. Mernon’s favorite sport was golf and he enjoyed fishing and hunting in his free time. Being a Dallas Cowboy, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Tech fan, He enjoyed a good football game. Mernon was a family man at heart and loved being surrounded by each of his family members. He loved his dogs, especially his beloved poodle Dolly.
Mernon was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn Stephens of the home; one son Brandon Stephens and his wife Debbie of Amarillo; three sisters, Bertha Chaney of Graham, TX, Carolyn Bengston of Amarillo, and Arlene Heron of Oregon; a brother-in-law, Lanny Crump; three grandchildren Scott Ferrell Jr., Chase Ferrell, and Shelby Cruz; one great grandchild, Landon Cruz.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association.
