Richard Pointer Obituary

Richard Earl Pointer, 86, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Claude Cemetery. Earl was born August 15, 1933 in Quay County, New Mexico. He graduated from San Jon High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He worked as a diesel mechanic in Lubbock for several years. After his retirement, he worked for Airport Security Parking and O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. In his spare time, Earl enjoyed whittling, woodworking, and reading western novels. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandbabies. Earl was a great man, role model, Dad, Papa, just the whole package. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven Morey Pointer; his wife, Lillian Hulene Pointer; two sisters, Merl Lummus and Sylvia Beavers and his brother, Omer Ross Pointer. Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Ledbetter of the home; three grandchildren, Eric Pointer and wife Sally, and Shannon Ledbetter and husband Chris Cross, and Stephanie Andrews; four great-grandchildren, Ashlynne Robinson and husband Cody, Khristian Ledbetter and husband Calen Golden, Christopher Pointer, and Haven Schulz; two great-great-grandchildren, Atlas Robinson, and Kynzley Golden; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, at www.heart.org.
