Alma Bliss

Alma Bliss, 85,of Amarillo passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Celebration of Life Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Washington Avenue Christian Church. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Cox Funeral Home. Alma was born on March 1, 1932 in Indianapolis, IN to Phillip and Thelma Hawkins. She was married to William "Bill" Hetzler on February 20, 1951. Together they moved to Amarillo in 1959. Bill preceded her in death in 1973. Alma married Theodore "Ted" Bliss on January 28, 1975. He preceded her in death in 2000. She worked in an administrative and secretarial position at Northwest Texas Hospital for several years before her employment at Pantex, where she worked for over 17 years, retiring in 1994. Following her retirement, Alma worked part-time for Hastings and Campfire. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, ceramics, tole painting, and was a talented seamstress and fantastic cook. She was known to be witty, had a great sense of humor and loved music and dancing. Alma is survived by her daughter, Vicky Bails and husband Tony of Bushland; 2 sons, Drew Hetzler and wife Jennifer of Cincinnati, OH and Scott Hetzler and wife Debra of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren, Mendy, Jason, Becky, Gary, Shane, Billy, Alyssa, Tarren, Trace and Nathan; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Minnick of Indianapolis and brother, Phil Hawkins and wife Louise of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Hetzler; husband, Ted Bliss; daughter, Thelma Denise Hetzler; son, Bill Hetzler; brother, Charles Hawkins and sister, Billie Kisor. The family wishes to thank Alma's caregivers, Brenda, Jackie and Angela for the loving care they gave her.
