Avis Marie Burkhalter

Avis Marie Burkhalter, age 95, passed away on March 16, 2026. She was born on August 7, 1930, in Oklahoma and was raised in Manitou, Oklahoma. A dedicated student and athlete, Avis graduated as the salutatorian of her high school class and was recognized as an all-district basketball player.

After World War II, she married her lifelong love, Alvie. Their marriage was a remarkable testament to devotion and partnership, lasting 72 years until his passing.

Avis made her home in Dalhart, Texas, where she and her husband raised their family. She was an industrious and driven woman who owned and operated several businesses over the years. Deeply rooted in her faith, she was an active member of First Baptist Church and found great joy in serving her community.

Following retirement, Avis and her husband moved to Amarillo, Texas, to be closer to their family, where she continued to cherish time spent with loved ones.

She is survived by her four children, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy.

A graveside service will be held in Tipton, Oklahoma.
