Barbara Johnson

Barbara Faye Johnson, 77, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Bedford, Texas.

A memorial service honoring Barbara's life will be held on June 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas.

Born on August 15, 1947, in Wilburton, Oklahoma, Barbara lived a life defined by dedication to family and a strong work ethic. The daughter of Gerald and Pauline Hopper, Barbara, began working at her mother's restaurant, Pauline's Cafe, at the age of 12. This early start marked the beginning of a lifelong career in the restaurant industry. Over the next five decades, she became a familiar and trusted presence at many restaurants. Her commitment to service left a lasting impression on patrons and coworkers alike. Barbara was an ever-present figure in her children's education: active in PTA meetings and cheering from the sidelines at every sporting event they participated in. Her goal was to have her children get a college education. She took great pride in seeing her children-Michael, Tammy, and Jason Gilbert-earn their college degrees. Barbara's love for her family extended to her grandson Trace Gilbert and great-granddaughter Nevaeh Gilbert. She found immense joy in watching them grow and celebrating their milestones. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Pauline Hopper; her brother Jerry Hopper; and sisters Erma Dearing and Ginger Schoen, and her first husband Reggie Gilbert. Barbara enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She rarely missed an episode of The Young and the Restless or General Hospital, cheered passionately for the Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners, and found peace in gardening. Her legacy is one of perseverance, devotion to family, and quiet strength. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
