Barry Charles Crites, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on November, 11, 2024. Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday November 20, 2024 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. with Pastor Chris Condit officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Barry was born on June 29, 1953 to Charles and Lavoice Crites in Amarillo, TX. He would then live in Anaheim, California for many years before the family would return to Amarillo. Barry would attend and graduate from Tascosa High school in 1971. Soon after graduation Barry enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a radio operator aboard the USS Gato (SSN-615). His Rank was an E- 4 and he was awarded the National Defense Service Award, and the Good Council Award; Barry was honorably discharged in June of 1975.
After all his electrical training in the Navy, Barry began a lifelong career as an electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW 602. Along the way he met and married Joan Condren, they shared many years together before she passed in 2020.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan Crites; one brother, Mike Crites.
Survivors include his sister, Cindy Bellah of Amarillo; his brother, Alan Crites and wife Rani of Amarillo; two sisters-in-law, Susan Crites of Pueblo, Colorado and Debbie Condren of Yukon, Oklahoma; a host of nieces, nephews and great, and great-great nieces and nephews; many friends and his beloved dog, Itsy.
