Benny Williams, 77, of Amarillo, passed away on January 6, 2026. A graveside service to honor Benny's life will take place on January 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Llano Cemetery Mausoleum in Amarillo, with Pastor Dan Stewart officiating.

Born on December 20, 1948, in Brownwood, Texas, Benny touched many lives throughout his time on Earth with his selflessness, his kindness, and his dependability.

After graduating from Sul Ross State University, Benny proudly served in the United States Navy before pursuing a career with Cabot Corporation. A dedicated professional, he worked as a chemist and environmental compliance officer for 35 years with Cabot before retiring and then applying his experience and expertise to a job he loved with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Benny was passionate about education and had a love for nature, evident in his formal education as a botanist and chemist. After finishing his Masters in Environmental Science from West Texas A&M, he shared his knowledge as an environmental geology instructor at Wayland Baptist University and a biology instructor at Amarillo College. He had a particular affinity for the Chihuahuan Desert in southwest Texas, spending significant time studying and supporting education and research in the broad and rugged landscapes of the Big Bend area.

Benny enjoyed working with his hands, spending hours in his shop working on projects that brought joy to others. Every gift God gave him, he used to serve others. His calming spirit and quiet reflection brought ease to those around him.

More than anything else Benny was a devoted child of God, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was a faithful steward of God’s grace who led his family with spiritual strength guided by his confident faith in Christ throughout his life. He served God humbly and with love in Baptist church families as a children’s Sunday school teacher, Royal Ambassador leader and Vacation Bible School teacher.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bonnie Williams. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janis Williams, and their children: Doug Williams of Amarillo and Peggy Cook and her husband, Sean, of Richardson. He cherished his role as a grandfather to his granddaughter Autumn Cook and his brother Allen Williams and his wife Susan of Ozona. His two nieces, Michelle Young and her husband, Ray, and their daughter, Desireé, and Melissa Perner and her husband, Paul, along with their two children, Christian and Elizabeth. Survivors also include a host of extended family and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, remember Benny with a donation to Gideon’s International for a gift of Bibles.
