Bernice Brewer

August 16, 1923 — August 2, 2017

Mrs. Brewer was born August 16, 1923 in Panhandle to W.H. and Mada Kimble. She graduated from Panhandle High School. She attended West Texas State College. Bernice married Farris Brewer on January 29, 1949 in Amarillo. They lived in Dallas for a time, where she worked at Southern Union Gas Co. They moved back to Amarillo in 1951. They were members at First Baptist Church since 1951, where Bernice was very active. She served on the baptistry committee, in the nursery, and in the library at her church, among others. She was a charter member of the High Plains Baptist Hospital auxiliary. She volunteered with them for 30 years from 1970-2000, and held leadership roles within that organization. Bernice was a homemaker. She and her husband were members of the Bushland community for over 50 years. She loved being a farm wife and mother. Survivors include her husband, Farris Brewer; three daughters, Brenda Brewer of Bethesda, MD, Cheryl Brewer, and Nancy Davis and husband Ron all of Amarillo; one sister, Naoma Thornton of Waxahachie, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary Marshall Brewer; and a brother, Bill Kimble. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler, Amarillo, TX 79101.
