Betty Henderson, 88, of Amarillo passed away on August 17, 2018 in Nevada. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Pastor Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive guests for visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at Cox Funeral Home. Betty was born on February 23, 1930 in Childress to Silas and Francis Bivins. She moved to Amarillo as a child, where she graduated from Amarillo High School. She married Kenneth Henderson on September 6, 1953 in Tucumcari, NM. He preceded her in death in 2015. Betty had many challenges in her life, all of which she met head on. She raised 5 children, all while being a military wife. Wherever she lived, Betty always worked outside the home. She normally worked up to a role of responsibility. Her jobs included bookkeeping, banking, and serving as office manager at various employers. She served as both a loving and caring mother, home manager and wife to her beloved Kenneth, with whom she was married nearly 62 years. She acted as head of the household when Kenneth was deployed overseas. Betty was well-known for her cooking skills, especially delicious desserts such as her lemon meringue and chocolate pies. She spent her last months in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by some of her loving family. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Henderson; daughter, Joi Wright, parents, Zell and Francis Bivins; brothers, Wallace Bivins and Bob Bivins and his sister, Zella Mae Wescoat. She is survived by 2 sons, Brad Henderson and wife Pam of New Braunfels and Rusty Henderson and wife Carol of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Ginger Smith of Las Vegas, NV and Sandra Owens of Henderson, NV; sister, Bonnie Dodson and husband John of Amarillo; 5 grandchildren, Cherry, Buster, Amy, Amber, Summer and Lindsay and 8 great grandchildren.
