Betty Jane King, 79, of Canyon, Texas, passed away on May 25, 2026.
A Celebration of her life will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas 79109 with Pastor Valmir Pereira of City Church officiating.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Betty was born on May 12, 1947, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, to Mable Trump. She graduated from Hempfield Area Senior High School in Westmoreland County.
On December 11, 1964, Betty married the love of her life, Walter King, in Pleasant Unity, Pennsylvania. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before Walter’s passing in 2022.
Betty was a giver in every sense of the word, and it showed in her unwavering faith and love for her savior Jesus Christ. She had a deeply loving and compassionate heart for both people and animals, and she dedicated much of her life to serving others. She volunteered with children through various churches in Amarillo, helped at local food pantries, and faithfully served at Faith City Mission. Many of her Thanksgivings and Christmases were spent preparing and serving meals for those in need. Betty’s kindness extended far beyond organized service, it was simply who she was. It was not uncommon for her to feel led to quietly pay for a stranger’s groceries, a small but powerful reflection of the love and generosity she carried throughout her life.
Betty also found joy in nature and creativity. She loved plants and trees, and she had a passion for painting. After taking time away from art, she was encouraged by her son to begin painting again. Later in life, Betty attended painting classes at Amarillo College, where she rediscovered her love for creating beautiful artwork. At the time of her passing, she was nearly finished with a beach scene painting. Her artwork remains a treasured gift to her family, who will cherish her paintings and the love behind them forever.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter King.
Betty is survived by her sons, Mark King and Walter King, both of Canyon, Texas; her daughters, Marie Deaver and Dawn Moore, both of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Tim Tebow Foundation or City Church of Amarillo.
