Billie Joan Adams-Polk, 80, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 25, 2026.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Redemptive Word Church, 4400 S. Washington Street, Amarillo, Texas 79110, with Pastor Peggy Adams officiating. A visitation will be held the evening prior, Friday, April 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Billie was born on January 29, 1946, in Falkner, Mississippi, to Lymon Adams and Mildred Adams (Cox).
Billie dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her early career at Westgate Kings Manor in Hereford, Texas and went on to serve as a private duty nurse and medication aide. Determined to further her calling, she earned her nursing degree from Amarillo College in 1980, becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Billie faithfully served as an LVN at Bivins Nursing Home, where she found her true passion in geriatric nursing. Her compassion and commitment made a lasting impact on countless lives.
A pillar of her community, Billie was a devoted member of Golden Spread Emmaus where she faithfully lived out her calling to serve and uplift others. She actively served as a Reunion Coordinator and was deeply involved in Kairos Inside and Kairos Outside ministries. Billie was a powerful and effective witness to families of those impacted by incarceration, offering hope, encouragement, and the love of Christ.
Billie was known for her generosity, kindness, and quiet spirit. She had a true servant’s heart and lived her life guided by her deep Christian faith. A devoted and longtime member of Redemptive Word Church, Billie was a woman of prayer who encouraged others, held them accountable, and emphasized the importance of strong character and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Billie was a loving and encouraging mother who always believed in her children, ensuring they knew they were deeply loved. She was the best "Granny” to her grandchildren, teaching them strength, resilience, and tenacity. She was also well known for her delicious sweet potato pie and candied yams, passing down her love of cooking to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lymon Adams and Mildred Adams (Cox); brothers, Rufus Cox, D.L. Adams, Edward Adams, and Dennis Adams; sisters, Totsie Hankins and Niece Cox-Edgeston; and daughter, Brenda Polk.
Billie is survived by her sisters, Peggy Adams, of Amarillo Texas and Betty Culp of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Karla Gallien of Amarillo, Texas; son, Darrell Polk of Amarillo, Texas; granddaughter, Teirani Garrett (Aubrey) of Amarillo, Texas; grandsons, Russell Gallien III (Saat) of Houston, Texas and Darrell Polk Jr. of Hereford, Texas; great-grandson, Adam Brandon of Amarillo, Texas; great-granddaughters, Ka’Lia Smith of Austin, Texas, Tailar Smith of Amarillo, Texas, Summer Gallien of Houston, Texas, and Rose Gallien of Houston, Texas; great-grandson, Russell Gallien IV of Houston, Texas; great-great-grandsons, J’Vyn Gilbreath and Khingston Smith, both of Amarillo, Texas; and niece, Mistey Williams of Amarillo, Texas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished loved ones, and dear friends
Billie’s legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on in all who knew her.
