Billy Oliver Stone, 88, of Amarillo passed away on February 8, 2024, just before his 89th birthday. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Billy was born in McCaulley, Texas on February 23, 1935 to Willie Louise LaRue Stone and John Franklin Stone.  Acquainted with tragedy, Billy said goodbye to his mother Willie Louise on December 7, 1950, and was raised by his father, as well as many aunts and uncles. He attended high school in Sweetwater where he played football as center and nose tackle. Shortly after high school, Billy joined the U.S. Air Force and rose honorably through the ranks to retire with the rank of Senior Master Sargeant on November 30, 1976, with 23 years of service, as petroleum supervisor. He was the fuel superintendent for Air Force One during President Nixon’s term.

While deployed in the United Kingdom, Billy met Brenda Garvey, the love of his life.  After marrying Brenda, they raised three children, Debbie, Kimberly, and John, whom he loved and cherished throughout his entire life.

After retirement, Billy owned B&B Bargains and Antiques. He sold knives and collectibles at gun and knife shows for many years. He was an avid bowler and worked as a mechanic for Amarillo Bowl and Western Bowl.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Patsy Jacqueline, and Donald Jack Stone; and his son, John David Stone.

Survivors include his former spouse, Brenda Garvey Stone; two daughters, Debbie Lynn Hansen and husband Dwight, and Kimberly Ann Whipkey; his grandchildren, Michael Don Howington and wife Dianna, Brenda Robin Gonzales, Jamie Lynn Badillo and husband Pablo, Zachary Whipkey, and Nicholas Whipkey and partner Ruby Guerrero; his great-grandchildren, Adrianna, and Anthony Howington, Ryleigh, Josiah, and Journey Gonzales, Elviana Badillo, Kenzleigh, Nicholas, and Nehemiah Whipkey.
