Bobby Gene Hulsey, 90, of Amarillo, walked into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Bobby will be available for viewing from 3:00 - 8:00 PM on Thurs day December 30. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 31, 2021 at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Bobby was born on March 30, 1931, in Pampa, Texas, to Earl and Ada Hulsey. Throughout his life, Bobby resided in several cities—Pampa, Borger, and Los Angeles—but it was Amarillo that he considered home. No matter where he was, though, his wife of 60 years and the love of his life, Patsy, was there by his side. They were inseparable from their first moment to their last.
An adventurer, creative talent, and generous heart are just a few adjectives to paint the vivid life of Bobby. He enjoyed camping, mountain climbing, and backpacking with his family and friends, forming miles of memories along the way.
In the 1980s, Bobby was an honored recipient of the United States Parachute Association (USPA) Gold Wings Award. This remarkable achievement is given to parachutists who complete 1,000 free-fall parachute jumps. It was a memorable way to cap off his 20-year career as a sport parachutist in and around the Tri-State Area.
Bobby was as giving and caring as he was multi-talented and eager to take on new challenges. He put endless effort into teaching his family new things, as well as getting his children into outdoor activities to create unforgettable experiences.
All the while, Bobby was an artist throughout his life, and a long-time sign designer. He served as one of the last sign painters in the Amarillo region; it was during this time that he worked at Hoarel Sign Company for 42 years. He lit up the City of Amarillo with neon signs he created by hand, leaving a lasting impression on the community he was so proud to be a part of.
Day-in and day-out, Bobby was devoted to his family. He loved being able to raise his children and grandchildren—and he found joy in the many avenues of each of their lives took them. Most importantly, though, Bobby was a devoted Christian and member at The Church at Quail Creek.
Bobby will be missed by all those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory Lynn Hulsey; and his wife, Patsy Jean Hulsey.
Survivors include his one son, Mark Hulsey; one daughter, Kimberly Schooler, and her fiancée Steve Dexheimer, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Joel and Zephaniah Hulsey; Athen Schooler; and Benjamin Gephart.
