Bobby was born in Dallas on June 27, 1949 to Frank Lawrence Lee, Jr. and Margaret Elizabeth Ferrell Lee. His father was in the US Air Force, so the family moved frequently, living in Harlingen; the Philippines; Yuma, AZ; Illinois; Washington State; Ephrata, WA; Roswell, NM, where he graduated from high school in 1967; and Edwards Air Force Base in California. Bobby attended Antelope Valley Community College in Lancaster, CA, where he received an Associate's Degree in 1969. He then moved to Lubbock, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech in 1972.
Bobby moved to Houston to begin his career in Chemical Engineering. It was there that he married Vickie Dennis in 1974. He moved to Greenville, SC to work with Fluor Daniel, which sent him to many places - Tasmania, Australia and Cincinnati, OH among his favorites. In Cincinnati, Bobby began his enthusiastic participation in community theatre. He retired from Fluor Daniel in 1995, moving to Tulsa, OK to be near his daughters.
Bobby devoted much of his life to taking care of others. He volunteered at hospitals, nursing homes, hospices - most recently, Hospice Care of the Southwest, where he was lovingly cared for in his final hours - and he provided reliable vehicles and dental care when he saw a need. He served with Kairos and other prison ministries, and assisted in the construction of prison chapels. He also volunteered at Thomas E. Creek V.A. chapel services, Habitat for Humanity and Urban Paws - Dallas, as well as many other organizations. Bobby moved to Amarillo to be closer to and help care for his four grandchildren.
Bobby had a lifelong love of music. He was a talented singer and was a member of many accomplished barbershop choruses, including the Houston Tidelanders, Vocal Majority, Tulsa Founders Chorus, and Cincinnati Golden Gateway Chorus - with this last, he sang at Carnegie Hall.
Bobby was a cancer, stroke and heart attack survivor. As a final act of giving, Bobby requested that his body be donated to assist in scientific research to help others. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to one of the above-mentioned organizations Bobby served, or just give something of yours - time, energy, love - to someone who needs it.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Charissa Prchal and husband Tim of Stillwater, OK, and Melodie Shaffer and husband Jonathan of Amarillo, TX; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Larry Lee and wife Jo of Midlothian, VA, and Gary Lee of Tustin, CA; and Bobby's dear friend, Dolly Bull of Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his Parents.
