Bobby Sue Dempsey, 92, passed from this earthly life to her Heavenly home on October 5, 2022, in Plainview, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday October 10, 2022 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel with her son-in-love Ross Forney officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM at the East Mound Cemetery in Matador. The family will receive friends on Sunday October 9, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the funeral home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
She was born on June 6, 1930, in Amarillo, Texas to William Boyd (BW) Renner and Velma Nettie Hays Renner. Bobby Sue graduated from Gruver High School in 1947 and attended one semester of college at Abilene Christian University. Her college days were cut short as while on Christmas break she met, in her words, “a tall, handsome cowboy at the grain elevator in Gruver, Texas”. She married her handsome cowboy, Henry Lloyd (Jack) Dempsey, on August 15, 1948, in Gruver, Texas.
Jack and Bobby Sue had 38 wonderful years together before his passing in March of 1986. Together they raised six children. Bobby Sue loved her children but especially loved her grandchildren. She was known as Nana to almost everyone that knew her. Crying babies would be passed back in church for her to calm down and rock to sleep. Junior high and high school kids loved her syrup-like sweet tea and apparently, no one could master cinnamon toast like hers. She loved to put puzzles together, do crossword puzzles, watch old westerns, listen to old country music, and love on kids. She was always happy, smiling, and humming a hymn. She was the epitome of a faithful Christian servant and was a member of the Church of Christ in White Deer, Texas, and later worshipped at The Colonies Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bobby Sue is preceded in death by a son, Joe Bill Dempsey, daughter, Velma Sue (Sudy) Dempsey Cochran, great-grandson Mikel Chance, brother BJ Renner, and sister LaVeta Neal. Survivors include: sons, Bobby Jack (BJ) Dempsey and wife Kathy Jo of Matador, and Harold Lloyd Dempsey and wife Cindy of Amarillo, daughters, LaRae Estelle Dempsey Whitlow of Happy, and Darla Beth Dempsey Forney and husband Ross Forney of White Deer, and daughter-in-love Glenda Dempsey of Happy. Two sisters, Wanda Jo Russell of Round Rock and Beryl Rae Reynolds of Amarillo. She also leaves behind nineteen grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
