Bruce E. Lagerquist, 76, of Amarillo, died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of Monday, October 12, 2026. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 24, 2026 at LifePoint Fellowship, 7601 Canyon Drive, with Pastor Caleb Pearson officiating. Interment will be at the Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
Bruce was born on March 15, 1950 in Seattle, Washington to Donald and Beverly Lagerquist. He grew up in Fremont, California, the only boy with three sisters. Bruce served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971, stationed in Vietnam during the war. After his service, he returned to Washington where he married the love of his life, Marie. Together, they raised two daughters, Sarah and Hannah and enjoyed 48 years of marriage until Marie’s passing in 2024.
Bruce made his career as a plumbing contractor in the Lacey/Olympia area. He owned and operated Jireh Mechanical for many years until he and Marie moved first to Aberdeen, South Dakota in 2008, and then to Amarillo, Texas in 2022 to be close to their daughters and grandsons.
During his time in Washington, he enjoyed elk hunting, spending time at the ocean, and “stump jumping” (which is what he called driving his girls in his truck through rough back roads in the mountains of Western Washington). His genuine love for the Lord and for people led him to work in ministry for several years. He had a passion for Scripture which was evidenced by countless hours spent studying and discussing the Bible. Bruce had a very charming and charismatic way about him. He was authentic in his desire to get to know people and hear about their lives. He was outgoing and generous. Bruce will always be remembered as a devoted family man who was especially proud of his two grandsons and their many accomplishments. He made sure they both had new cowboy boots every year as they grew up and he cherished the time he had with them. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Beverly; his wife, Marie; and a sister, Kathy McCabe.
Survivors include daughters Sarah (Ryan) Simmons and Hannah Lagerquist, all of Amarillo; sisters, Janet (Don) Jensen of Oregon, and Karen (Scott) Thompson of Idaho; and grandsons, Isaiah Simmons and Josiah (Aliyah) Simmons.
Bruce’s family would like to thank the staff of Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo Texas for their truly exemplary care of Bruce during the last year and a half of his life. They are also thankful for the Texas Veterans Land Board and everything they have done for Bruce and his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in memory of Bruce Lagerquist.
