Carlton “CD” Davis, 81, of Amarillo, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025. He proved that two things can be true at once: we are equally joyous for him and sad for ourselves. Knowing that he no longer has to suffer, we also know we as a family no longer have him to guide us. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Llano Cemetery, with Pastor Adam Casias officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
CD was born April 28, 1944, in Abilene, Texas, to Carlton and LaVeta Davis. He spent most of his childhood on different airbases throughout Texas before his family settled in Amarillo. After CD graduated from Amarillo High School, he joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served his time on the USS Ranger. Following his service, CD was discharged from the Navy and met and married Gloria Aragon on July 24, 1969. CD did a short stint at West Texas University and decided college was not for him.
CD found his calling as an over-the-road truck driver. He worked at several different companies before going to work at Roadway Express. CD worked there for 30 years before hanging it up. He was a great provider and loved nothing more than being with his family. CD was a great storyteller who loved to share his youth and navy adventures with all who would listen. He was very artistic and loved to paint as well. CD was the biggest Cowboys fan and also their biggest critic. He was always waiting for that last Super Bowl run.
CD was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Davis; one son, Joshua, and wife Charlene Davis; one daughter, Lucinda Davis; two grandsons, Zachary Davis and wife Shiloh and Dawson Davis and wife Kelsey; one granddaughter, Darby Davis; one great-granddaughter, Briar Davis; one sister, Donna Cobb, and husband David. Survivors also include a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
