Carol Gunnels

Carol Gunnels, 84, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.  Private family services will be scheduled for a later date.

Carol was born July 15, 1940 in Woodington, Ohio to Herman and Marybelle Washington. She grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After high school, she married the love of her life, Clyde Gunnels on July 19, 1958 in Albuquerque. Together, they spent the next 60 years farming and ranching in Field, New Mexico, and raised three daughters, Jule’, Rene’, and Rachelle. Carol dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a dedicated farmer’s wife, driving the tractors and grain trucks.

To say that Carol had a servant’s heart is an understatement. She was always looking for ways to serve and give to other people. She especially loved to serve her grandchildren. Carol and Clyde enjoyed traveling and went on many cruises throughout their life, where Carol looked forward each time to making new lifelong friends. She spent a lot of time in the Bible and she stored away thousands of scriptures in her heart. Her greatest desire was to share Christ’s love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol spent her entire life preparing to meet Jesus, so it was fitting for her to meet Him on Christmas Day. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Clyde Gunnels.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jule’ Green (Forrest) of Amarillo, Rene’ Graham (Monte) of Corrales, NM, and Rachelle Sicher (Brian) of Amarillo; her brother, Victor Washington of Clovis, NM; 10 grandchildren, Taylor Smith (Taris), Jaden Abernathy, Starla Lansford (Miles), Colt Sicher (Whitney), Ashton Van Buren (Hunter), Sunnie Richardson (Jack), April Eshom (Logan), Austin Graham (Alex), Landyn Graham (Marilyn) and Hunter Graham; ten great-grandchildren, Jaya (Kadin), Baron, Houston, Kade, Presley, Bodie, Cooper, Paisley, Carter and Lilah; and one great-great-grandson, Nash.
