It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn Gail Miller, who left us peacefully on January 13, 2026. Carolyn was born on May 31, 1940, in Memphis, Texas, to O.B. and Lucille Hoover. She graduated from Esteline High School, where she graduated as the Valedictorian, was a cheerleader and played basketball. She went on to attend West Texas State University, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in English.
Carolyn devoted more than 58 years to teaching English, sharing her passion for language and literature with students at River Road, Canyon Jr. High, Canyon High School, Randall High School, and Ascension Academy. She was especially known for her love of Shakespeare and classic literature, as well as her keen insistence on strong grammar and writing mechanics. As a teacher, mentor, colleague, and friend, she made an enduring impact on countless lives.
Carolyn loved to travel—especially to the beach—and found joy in playing the piano, sharing stories, and bringing people together. She approached every aspect of life with enthusiasm, humor, and her own unmistakable style. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas, she faithfully served in Sunday School and contributed her gifts with a quiet confidence and vibrant spirit. Those who knew her will remember her feisty nature, her generosity, and the bright energy she carried into every room.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Miller; their daughter, M’Lynn Miller; two sisters, Lynn Buchanan and Chalonnes Hoover; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and former students who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, O.B. and Lucille Hoover.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2025, at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Amarillo, Texas. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor her remarkable legacy.
May Carolyn Miller’s soul rest in eternal peace.
