Amarillo

Cecil Johnson, 90, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024. To honor his many achievements and the joy he brought to those around him, Cecil's Last Car Show and Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Central Church of Christ, 1401 S. Madison with Shawn Wiley, Minister officiating.

Cecil was born August 22, 1934 in McKnight, Texas to Louis and Ethel Johnson. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952. Cecil married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Kennedy on May 29, 1954 in Amarillo. Together, they enjoyed 65 years of marriage, and raised two children, Mindee and Roddy.

Cecil was a self-employed machinist for his whole adult life. He owned and operated Tri-State Machine and Supply for 25 years. His lifelong dedication to his craft will be remembered by many in the community. He was highly respected for his expertise in building and restoring engines. His legacy includes the building of over 5,450 engines, which is a testament to his passion and skill in the automotive world. Cecil knew everything there was to know about engines, and shared his wealth of knowledge with countless others. His passion for restoring old cars was evident.

Outside of being the best car man around, Cecil was a very kind man. His generosity and magnetic personality endeared him to all who knew him. His willingness to help others and his wealth of knowledge made him a cherished figure in his community. Cecil was truly one-of-a kind and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community. He leaves behind a rich legacy that will continue to inspire and bring joy to those who were touched by his kindness and expertise.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Ann Johnson; a son, Roddy Johnson; a sister, Sandra Wilkerson; and a brother, Bill Johnson.

Survivors include his daughter, Mindee Flippin and husband Rick of Amarillo; a brother, Tommy Johnson and wife Carrie of Amarillo; three grandsons, Jack Flippin of Colorado Springs, CO, Joshua Flippin of Lubbock, and Jacob Flippin of Frisco; and a niece, Cara Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO.

For those attending the service and car show, we encourage you to wear your best Cecil outfit - jeans and a car T-shirt. But feel free to dress up if you’d like to.
