Charlie was born on October 24, 1963 in Amarillo to Don and Betty Cox. He was raised in Canyon, graduating from Canyon High School in 1982. He attended West Texas A&M University briefly before enrolling at the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, where he received his Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science. It was then that Charlie answered the call to devote his life to caring for families. In 1984, he went to work for Schooler-Gordon funeral home for his mentor, Mack Gordon. It was Mac Gordon who first planted the seed in Charlie's heart to join the funeral profession when his own father passed away. Charlie worked at Schooler-Gordon funeral home until 1990, when he moved to Memphis, TX to open Cox Funeral Home. In 1995, he returned to Amarillo, where he opened Cox Funeral Home in 2003, dedicating his chapel, Benton Chapel to the memory of his maternal grandparents, H.T. "Hamp" and Ethel Benton. As a funeral director and funeral home owner, Charlie always put the needs of his families above his own. He taught those around him that "Every life is worth a Celebration" through the many things he did to tend to families. He made many friends throughout his years of service. The staff he worked closely with will always remember his generosity and extremely kind heart. As important as the funeral industry was to Charlie, his love for his children was greater. His proudest moments were dancing with his daughter, Caytie anytime he had the chance and taking Taylor to the many events he was a part of. He leaves behind a legacy of love, honor and generosity for all to remember him by. Charlie was a member of many organizations, including: Big Brothers-Big Sisters, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Better Business Bureau, the Amarillo Senior Citizen's Center, the 30 year past president of Range Riders, a member of the Coors Cowboy Club, a Mason, a Shriner, a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where he taught in the college department as well as the 5th grade department. He is survived by his children, Caytie Cox and Taylor Cox of Amarillo; his mother, Betty Hill; sister, Cindy Walker, all of Amarillo; 2 brothers, Gary Cox and Toby Cox; the mothers of his children, Deana Barnett and husband Barney and Tami Cox and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Cox. Charlie suggested memorial donations be made to the Khiva Shrine Travel Fund.
