Amarillo

Charles Eugene “Charlie” Gene” Brown, 80, of Amarillo, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.  Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Church of Christ at the Colonies, 4500 Wesley Road, with Bret McCasland, Minister officiating.

Gene was born July 8, 1944 in San Angelo, Texas to Charles A. and Daphna Brown. He graduated from high school in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was stationed at Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Gene married his sweetheart, Patricia Brown on August 28, 1965 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. They made Clovis, New Mexico their home from 1973-1988, before moving to Amarillo. While in New Mexico, Gene worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He went on to work as a technician for Xerox and transferred to Amarillo, retiring in 2015 after 21 years. During their time in Clovis, Gene and Patricia attended and were members at 16th and Pile Church of Christ, where they made life-long friends.

In his spare time, Gene enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved playing pool and bowling, and was an avid reader. He spent many days visiting old museums in surrounding towns with his good friend, Joe Pirkle. Gene enjoyed going to the movies with his family. Mostly, he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his grandkids; he shared his love of fishing, hunting and knives with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Brown; two daughters, Laura Porterfield and husband Doyle, and Donna Monroe all of Amarillo; a brother, Barry Brown of Roswell, NM; six grandchildren, Derek Porterfield, Andrew Monroe and fiancée Shalomi, Lynsi Brantley and husband Evan, Matthew Monroe, Bethany Thomas and husband Tyler, and Morgan Monroe; and three great-grandchildren, Hazel Mae, Emmy, and Rowan.
