Clarence Oran "Co" Wheeler III, 58, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Saint Stephen United Methodist Church with Charlie Cox officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Co was born March 14, 1956, to Clarence Oran "Pete" and Sherlene Hill Wheeler Jr. He went home to be with his lord on Friday after a two-year battle with cancer. He lived his first six years with his family working on ranches in West Texas. His family moved to Wyoming when Co was in the ninth grade.
Growing up, he was active in Boy Scouts and Future Farmers of America, where he enjoyed showing pigs. He had a great love of the outdoors, and while outfitting with his father, began leading pack trips into the Shoshone Natl. Wilderness on his own at age 14.
Upon graduation in 1974, Co returned to his true home, Texas. He moved to Odessa to begin his career as a welder, and in 1978, moved with his family to Amarillo. He went to work for CROMAC Inc. and remained there for the next four decades.
Co married an angel sent to him, Vickie Heket, on July 13, 2013. They fought the battle against his cancer until the end, side by side, enjoying each day together.
Co was considered a perfectionist by many and was an accomplished singer, musician, band leader, team roper, hunter and fisherman. He was an active member of Will Rogers Range Riders and was a giving man that everyone wanted to be close to.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lana Seree Wheeler; his grandfather, W.C. Hill; and his grandparents, Pete and Helen Wheeler Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Wheeler; a son, Clarence Oran "Rooster" and wife Tarah Wheeler of Frisco; a sister, Ann Skendrovic of Coppell; his grandchildren, Bailey Gonzalez and family of Roswell, N.M., and Blake, Brandon and Brianna Patino of Arlington; a great-granddaughter, Katherina Gonzalez of Roswell; his uncles and aunts, Steve and Claudia Sue Meeks of Bedford, Bill and Helen Bowers of Fort Worth and Freddie Moore of Odessa; a nephew, Skyler Skendrovic of Mansfield; and a niece, Ashton Brooks and family of Arlington; and many cousins and friends.
