Darci Rae (Thompson) Heiskell of Amarillo, Tx passed away Friday, May 25, 2018. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington Ave. in Amarillo with her cousin, Tim Ramsey, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr., Amarillo, TX. There will be an optional viewing from 11:00 to 1:00 at Cox Funeral Home.
Darci Rae Heiskell was born April 28 and raised in Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School and later was a graduate of West Texas State University. Darci touched many lives through being a drama director and computer instructor at St. Andrews and AACAL. Following in her "Daddy's" footsteps, Darci found her niche in journalism. She devoted endless hours to becoming an accomplished editor. She began as a freelance photographer and worked her way into vital roles including the Online Editor for Amarillo Globe News and the Vice President of Audience of Lubbock Avalanche Journal. Her dedication to work and fellow employees/friends led her to many lifelong friendships.
Darci grew up in a musical family and performed with her mother and sister throughout the years. She continued her love of music and drama in multiple aspects including PHS A Cappella choir and drama. As a skilled pianist and vocalist she took part in multiple bands. Darci enjoyed live theater, both as an actor and director. She lent her talents to the WTSU drama department, community theater and was affiliated with the well known musical, TEXAS.
Darci shared her technological expertise as a loyal volunteer for the United Way.. She also assisted her sister on the Plainview American Cancer Cotton Barrons' Ball entertainment committee for 11 years.
Darci had a strong competitive nature that led to many lively games, family activities, intellectual debates and even "who could sing the loudest in the car." Darci's love of adventure took her to foreign countries as well as most of the United States. Making friends came naturally to Darci because of her magnetic personality. Some of her fondest memories included her days spent with cousins while growing up.
Survivors include her children who she adored, Zachary Heiskell and his wife Nicole of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Madison Heiskell of Amarillo; Granddaughter, Aurora; Parents, Ben and Pat Thompson of Plainview; Sister, Stephanie Thompson Sweatt and husband David of Plainview; Nephew, Landon Ross Thompson, wife Abby and their son Harvey Ross of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Aunts and Uncles: Raymond Garms, Dorothy and Joe Hawkins, Karen Feagley; as well as many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, E.A. & Ella Lee Garms, Dorothy Faye and E.L. Plank and Felton Thompson; Granddaughter, Aria Faye Lynn; Brother-in-Law, Troy Lynn Thompson; and nephew Matthew Sweatt .
