Darla Sperry

Darla Sperry, 53, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 22, 2026, at The Loft Church, 4400 S. George Street, with Pastor Joe Tindal officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Darla was born on June 4, 1972, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Joe and Gayla Standley. Growing up, Darla quickly developed a caring heart for animals, which included a pet raccoon and many others. Darla married the love of her life, Michael, on May 27, 2006, in Criner, Oklahoma. They made their home in Amarillo. She loved her family, big; especially her husband and two boys. She could often be found caring for children at the school where she worked and with her church family. She was a head teacher at the Amarillo Montessori Academy.

Among her many hobbies, Darla enjoyed music, playing softball, and playing board and card games. Darla was a phenomenal cook and enjoyed spending time at the lake, dirt track races, playing kick the can (she was very competitive), and spending time with friends and family. Often, Darla would take the boys out of school early just to go fishing. She had a heart of pure service and was a boomer sooner through and through.

Darla was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Thelma Dutton; her parents, Joe and Gayla Standley; and her niece, Kylie Johnston.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Sperry of the home; her two sons, Chase Layton and Mason Sperry, both of Amarillo; her sister, Jennifer Standley, and wife Dana Vandever of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma; and her two brothers, Kevin Schaffer of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and John Standley and his wife, Donna Davis, of Reno, Nevada. Survivors also include a host of extended family and close friends.
