Dave Edwin Hutson

Dave Edwin Hutson passed from this life on March 22, 2016 in Amarillo, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was 90 years old. Dave was born in Montague County on November 13, 1925 to Taylor and Martha Hutson. The youngest of 12 siblings, he always told people he was "the seventh son of a seventh son, born on Friday the 13th." He grew up in the panhandle, attending the old Kaffir school between Tulia and Happy. At 19 he joined the Navy and saw action in the South Pacific during World War II, serving on the USS Mobile. After the war he joined the Merchant Marine, cruising the Pacific on commercial vessels. In 1947 he married Edna Helyer, who had immigrated to Texas from South Wales. Dave and Edna welcomed their daughter, Sandra, in 1950. They were married for nearly 58 years. Edna's sister, Vivienne, immigrated to Texas and joined the family in 1951. Dave was a friend to everyone. He loved to buy and sell cars, especially Chevrolets from the 1950s. He was a member of the antique Chevy club for many years. He was employed by Pantex, the Helium plant, and several auto dealerships as well as grain elevators, farm implement stores, and auto parts stores. He even spent time as a postman. He loved the water, especially boating and water skiing. He delighted in travelling, especially going to Las Vegas. Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife Edna in 2005, and by her sister Vivienne in 2010, his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his daughter Sandra and her friend Joan Herron, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, including Jim and Frances Hutson of Amarillo. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Lou Hutson of Gainesville and Eunice Hutson of Bridgeport. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the professionals at the "Village" in Ware Living Center, and to BSA Hospice for their kind, loving care.
