David A. Gilbert, 67, of Amarillo, died on Sunday, October 11, 2020. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Elder Herman Moore of Carter Chapel Primitive Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends on from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. David was born August 17, 1953 in Amarillo to Bobby and Lavonne Gilbert. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1971, and went on to attend West Texas State University. David worked for Santa Fe Railroad, later BNSF Railroad for 36 years, retiring in 2013. He married Katie Taylor on March 9, 2005. David was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite pastimes included bass fishing and fly fishing. He also enjoyed hiking, shooting, and working with his Labrador retrievers. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tim Gilbert; and a sister-in-law, Alice Gilbert. Survivors include his wife, Katie Gilbert of Amarillo; two sons, Zachary Gilbert and wife Amanda of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Michael Gilbert and wife Tonja of Lubbock; a daughter, Kelley Rider of Amarillo; a step-son, David Brown of Amarillo; a step-daughter, Kristianna Combs and husband Bill of Johnson, VT; 10 grandchildren, Raina, Nathan, Eric, Critter, Colton, Kamy, Gabriella, Colby, Logan, and Nova. The family suggests memorials may be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest, or the American Diabetes Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
