David Helton, 72, of Amarillo, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Memorial services will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5005 I-40. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 AM so that his friends and family may gather and reminisce before the service.
David has passed, but the legacy of the man he was will live on for many years to come. From a young age he had always been strong and full of life, as his siblings could well tell you, and as demonstrated from his military accolades achieved during the Vietnam War.
Shortly after his time at war David set out to find his place in the world, achieving an associate degree in applied sciences in 1978, which he continued to improve on many years into the future, honing his craft further which he turned into a career for the majority of his life, owning and running his own business with his brother in law.
David had many loves in his life; hunting with family and friends, working on cars, or racing them, and of course good food with good company. All of these pale in comparison to his love for his wife, Julie with whom he shared his life with for over 35 years, until she was taken from him by cancer four years ago.
Though he was devastated by this loss, he continued on, rekindling his passion for motorcycles, connecting with friends thousands of miles away through his Ham radio, and reconnecting with his children making new, happy memories before his health began to take a turn for the worst. David will always be remembered for his passion, bravery, and strength, by those that will carry his memory on into future generations.
He is survived by his children, Leslie Patterson, Kevin Burroughs, and Michelle Brown; his parents, Earvin Helton, and Winona Helton; his siblings, Gary Helton, Jeanie Durham, and Jimmy Helton; and his five grandchildren, all of which will miss him dearly.
