Dean Hodges, 87 of Amarillo, died Thursday, November 15, 2018. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday at First Baptist Church Chapel, 1208 S. Tyler St. with Rev. Corky Holland officiating. Dean was born April 27, 1931 in Dallas to Gene and Ruby Hodges. The family moved to Amarillo in 1936. Dean graduated from Amarillo High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a tank driver during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Jean Ryan, on November 28, 1952 at First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Dean worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 35 years as a linesman, installer, and repairman. After his retirement, he continued doing phone work for another 20 years. He owned and operated the Little Seed Apple Orchard. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was in the Reaching Out Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Hodges; and a sister, Doris Jean Walker. Survivors include his wife, Jean Hodges of Amarillo; a daughter, Mari-Jean Walker and husband Tommy of Amarillo; a sister, Gay Spinks and husband Bill of San Antonio; and two grandchildren, Savannah and Evan both of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Adult 8- Reaching Out Class, 1208 S. Tyler St. Amarillo, TX 79101.
