Don was born on June 2, 1920 in Barnsdall, OK to Roy and Edna Miller. He was raised in Midwest, WY, where starting in high school he served 2 terms in the Civilian Conservation Corp. Upon his completion of high school in 1941he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He proudly served in WWII in the South Pacific Theatre as an airplane mechanic, patching up the B-17'S and B-29's to return to combat. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. Upon discharge, he served in the National Guard attaining the commission of 2nd Lieutenant. Upon his return from service in New Guinea and Australia, he was stationed in Amarillo where he was baptized at First Baptist Church. Upon his transfer to Walker Air Force base in Roswell, NM, he met his future wife, Ramona Myers and the two of them were married on September 23, 1945 in Roswell, NM. Don worked for Sears and Roebuck for a couple years before beginning his employment with the United States Post Office, where he had 36 years of service, retiring in 1980.
Upon his retirement, Don and Ramona moved to Amarillo. They enjoyed traveling throughout the country and visiting Hawaii and Alaska for special anniversaries. He loved working with his hands, gardening and woodworking. He was an avid reader and enjoyed emailing his many family and friends. Don loved to play dominoes with friends at Senior Citizens Association of Canyon. He was a member of the Widowed Persons Service, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the VFW of Canyon Post 430.
Don was a past member of Calvary Baptist Church of Roswell, South Hill Baptist Church and was a current member of Paramount Baptist Church since 1980. He was always active in his church, serving as a deacon. Don's life was dedicated to God, country and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Lawanda Corbett and husband John of Amarillo; 2 sons, Larry Miller and wife Linda of Amarillo and Lane Miller and wife Tana of Canyon; 2 sisters, Ruth Rogers of Midwest, WY and Shirley Stoltey and husband Don; 5 grandchildren, Trever Willard, Jason Miller, Josh Miller, Sierra Miller and Braden Miller and 3 great grandchildren, Jacolbi, Shane and Tyler Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Miller, grandson, Tim Willard and his beloved wife, Ramona Miller.
