Don Wilcox, 86, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 2, 2014.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Westview Christian Church with Ron Kohler, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Don was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Amarillo to Ivan and Marjorie Wilcox. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945 before enlisting in the Navy. There, he proudly served on a destroyer ship in the China Sea at the end of the war. He was honorably discharged after two years of service. Don married Venita Morgan on June 28, 1948, in Amarillo. She preceded him in death in 1989. The first thing most people would think of about Don was his love of automobiles. He loved restoring classic cars and enlisted the help of all of his family and friends. When he wasn't restoring cars, he was racing them or selling parts and equipment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Venita Wilcox, and great-grandson, Trae Saucedo.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Wilcox and wife Diann and Rick Wilcox and wife Debra, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Sandra Wimberly and husband John of Claude; seven grandchildren, Eric, Adam and Briar Wilcox, Alexis Snider, Katrina Pate and Donny and Brandi Cornelison; and 17 great-grandchildren.
