Donald "Don" Dean Simmons Jr

Donald “Don” Dean Simmons Jr. of Amarillo, TX passed away suddenly December 20th, 2022 at the age of 59. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday December 30, 2022 at The Loft Church, 4400 Georgia. The family will be accepting friends at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

Don was born April 12th, 1963 in Landstuhl, Germany on the US Army base to Donald Simmons Sr. and Glenda Walls. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Tx. Don started bowling early in life and carried that through his entire adult life. He contributed to the Youth Bowlers of Amarillo as well as the WT bowling team. Don made many lifelong friends along the way while shooting many perfect 300 games, multiple 800 series’, and Winning senior bowler of the year in 2019 for his many contributions to the game. In 2015 he married his lifelong partner in crime Kate Simmons. Together they have 8 children, Jaime and husband Sean Weathersbee; Tina and husband Miles Surtees; Brandon Simmons; Mercedes and husband Charles Weathersbee; Kaycee Simmons; Chelsea Simmons; Richard and wife Kamry Miller; and Halea Secor all of Amarillo. They have 20 Grandchildren together. He also leaves behind his mother Glenda; his sister Kim; niece Lauryn; and nephew Justin.

Don loved “haggling” with people over truck parts and building C-10 trucks. He picked up a love of Harley motorcycles making many friends in the community. Don loved traveling and was always on the go enjoying live music, sporting events, motorcycle rallies and swap meets for trucks. Anyone who met Don Simmons could say they truly knew love. He loved anyone who entered his life fiercely and showed that to all of us on a daily basis.

He was preceded in death by his father Don Sr.; his grandson Izaak Lomeli; and his granddaughter Mary Elizabeth.
