Donald Wayne Staton

March 4, 1932 — August 16, 2016

Donald was born March 4, 1932 on a farm near Hollis, Oklahoma to Oscar and Beatrice Staton. His family moved to Vinson in 1946. This is where Don met his future wife, Glenda Nell Abercrombie. They had eyes for each other from then on and dated throughout high school. Donald and Glenda married on June 3, 1951. Donald immediately got a job at Shell Petroleum for the summer, then took a permanent position with Phillips Petroleum in the fall. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952, during the Korean conflict, and did his basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. After this, Donald went to B29 school in Wichita Falls. There he learned to assemble and disassemble the entire B29. Donald and Glenda then moved to Champaign, Illinois where Donald went to R4360 engine school. He was an engine mechanic from then on. Donald and Glenda's final military post was at Travis AFB in Fairfield, California. For the remainder of his service, Donald was a C97 mechanic and a crew chief. He ended his military career as a 4 stripe Staff Sargeant. In 1956, Donald and Glenda returned to Borger and Donald went back to work at Phillips Petroleum as a welder. In 1959, Donald took a job at Pantex and Donald and Glenda moved to Amarillo and bought the home they raised their family in. Donald loved to work and was a very hard worker. He began a second career in the tree business in 1960, while continuing to work at Pantex. He resigned from Pantex in 1979 and devoted himself to the tree business. He really enjoyed every aspect of the tree business, especially his customers. Donald loved the woods. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Together, Donald and Glenda built and landscaped their dream home in 1982, where Glenda still resides. Donald finally had time to work on his favorite hobby late in life. He bought some registered black angus cows from Hales. He really enjoyed tending to these animals. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bobby Glen Staton. Survivors include his wife of 65 years; a daughter, Lori McBrayer and husband Ernie of Amarillo; two sons, Tim Staton and wife Carol of Bristow, OK, and Jeff Staton and wife D'Lora of Perryton; a sister, Beva Jean Bufkin; 11 grandchildren, Kelly, Jeremy, Kendra, Bartlett, Shaney, Ginny, Katy, Sadie, Nettie, Chad, and Seth; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
