Don was born November 16, 1940 in Amarillo, Texas to Cecil and Willie Marie Stratton. He grew up in Amarillo and has lived here all of his life. In his early years, he worked in the roofing business alongside his father. He then went to work for Pantex and worked there for 25 years. After his retirement, Don became a school crossing guard, which he enjoyed immensely. He was loved by all the kids who got to know him and see him each day.
Don was a true family man. He married his wife Carolyn on April 24, 1992 in Amarillo. Don and Carolyn stepped in to help raise their niece and two nephews without hesitation. The couple were longtime active members of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, where Don enjoyed going to the men’s breakfast each month. Don had a generous spirit and a willingness to help whenever he saw a need. He was a people person who never met a stranger. Don was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and Texas Rangers fan. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lynn Stratton.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Stratton; his sister, Linda Dent of Lubbock; niece, Aleshia Cardenas and husband Joe; nephews, John Allen and Jimmy Allen, Jr. and wife Delilah; five great-nieces, Jaylee, Regan, McKinley, Lily and Carine; and two great-nephews, Marcus and Lincoln.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, at www.heart.org.
