Donald “Don” Wilcox, 86, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr., with Doctor Buddy Young officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, March 7, 2025, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home. Don was born on June 29, 1938, in Fairview, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged. Don married his wife, Mary Ratliff, on February 2, 1962; together they celebrated 32 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 1994.
Don worked as a carpet layer and salesman for Mark Davis Carpet here in Amarillo for most of his career. He later worked with Charlie’s Carpet in Pampa and C.W. Crouch doing maintenance in his later years. In his spare time, Don enjoyed camping, going to the Canadian River with family, and watching NASCAR. He was particularly fond of spending time on his motorcycle, something his family has sweet memories of.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Dortha Gollihugh and Jess Brewer; his wife, Mary Wilcox; one sister, Joyce Christianson; four brothers, Larry “Shorty” McDonald, Jim McDonald, Terry Gollihugh, and Mickey McDonald.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Tammie Evans and her husband Greg of Rockport and Sherry Powers and her husband Ken of Midlothian; his two sons, Todd Wilcox of Gretna, Louisiana, and Rod Wilcox and his wife Lisa of Justin; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dwight Gollihugh and wife, Kerry of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Tom McDonald of Amarillo; two sisters, Ginger “Dee Dee” McNeal and Judy Cox, both of Amarillo.
