Donita Sue (Romines) Stevens

Donita “Sue” Stevens, 66, of Amarillo passed away on Sunday May 4, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday May 9, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive with Michael Chase officiating. A time of visitation for friends and family of Sue will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday May 8, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Sue was born on October 7, 1958 in Amarillo, Texas to Donnie and Nelda Romines. At the age of 16, she began working there while attending Palo Duro High School.  After graduating high school, she attended the nursing program at NWTH and earned her Associates Degree there.

As a nurse she continued working at NWTH, first as a recovery nurse where she would take her daughter sometimes and show her how all the machines worked.  As her career continued she moved to day surgery and eventually the surgery center.  She spent a total of 40+ years working for NWTH.  Being a nurse came naturally to her as she had a gift for taking care of people and a genuine love for helping people.  She retired from NWTH for the second time to care for her husband, Wayne Stevens, before his death.

Sue enjoyed traveling the country with her family.  She loved spending time with her family and friends whether it be shopping, watching tv, or playing games.

During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her daughter and grandkids, playing games with her grandkids and watching them experience new things.  She also enjoyed doing puzzles and diamond art, as well as gardening.

Sue was preceded in death by: her mom and dad, Donnie and Nelda Romines; her husband, Wayne Stevens; her sister, Diana Moore; and her grandson, Trevor Jakeb.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jake and Melissa Lanzarotta; her two grandkids, Jakeb and Olivia Lanzarotta; her fur baby, Cooper; her three sisters, Carol Cowden, Lori Hannay and her husband Will; and Tonya Cole and her husband Rick; along with all her nieces and nephews and even great nieces and nephews.
