Donna "Birdie" Gilbert

Donna Gilbert, a life-long resident of Amarillo passed away on Monday, July 22nd, 2024.  Graveside services will be held at Dreamland Cemetery, 26500 South U.S. 87, Canyon, Texas on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Donna will be available for viewing on Thursday from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Donna was born on May 3rd, 1956 in Amarillo, Texas to Laroy and Betty Gilbert.  She graduated from Canyon High School in 1975.

She worked for many years at Owens Corning and with the U.S. Postal Service.

Before her stroke in 2013, she loved to garden and was an avid reader.  Since childhood, she had a true love of horses.

After her stroke she resided at Hillside Heights Rehabilitation Suites, where she was doted on and loved by many, many staff members.  To them we owe a debt of gratitude and appreciation.  We would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice for all of their care and support.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as a brother, Reg.

Donna is survived by her daughters DeAnna (Larry) Byrd, and Melissa (Donald) Prichard.  She is also survived by her sisters, Linda Conder, Betty (Guy) Gardner, Faye Essary and Mary (Leland) Gamblin.  Brothers, Larry Gilbert, Gary (Shirley) Gilbert and Lonnie Gilbert.  Grandchildren, BreAnna, Rebecca, Michael and Zane Prichard; Zack, Ashley, Allie and Zane Byrd.  Great-grandchildren Noah, Brooklyn, Ethyn, Peytyn, Kaylon and Keegan; and many nieces and nephews.
