Doris Jean McCullough, 86, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015.
Services will be at 11 a.m. February 14, 2015 in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Doris was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Okmulgee, Okla., to George "Gibby" and Thelma Morehead. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1947 before attending and graduating from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. She also attained a masters degree in education from Texas Tech University.
She taught special education for 37 years, seven years in Odessa and Lubbock and more than 30 years for Amarillo Independent School District. While with AISD, she taught grades 1 through 6 at Glenwood Elementary School, Sunrise Elementary School, Belmar Elementary School and retired from Ridgecrest Elementary School. She was active and served in numerous roles with Texas State Teacher's Association.
Doris had a great love and devotion for her Lord. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Only after her children and grandchildren, her church was her life. She worked vacation bible school and with the children of the church for many years. She sang in the sanctuary choir for many years and in her later years was very active with First Baptist Church Senior Adults. She loved to travel all over the world with her senior adult church group.
Doris was an avid bridge player and was active with three different bridge clubs. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, David; and two brothers, Robert Morehead and Jimmy Morehead.
Survivors include a son, Mike McCullough and wife Brenda of Amarillo; a daughter, Kim Damon and husband Clark of Amarillo; and five grandchildren, Melissa and husband Travis, Clark Jr. and wife Carla, Brandon and wife Cydney, Shawn and Kristi and husband Travis.
