Dorothy was born Oct. 22, 1936, in Big Spring to Dee and Vera Balch. She was a member of the 1955 graduating class of Amarillo High School and was a graduate of Draughn's Business College. She married R.K. "Red" Deckard on July 7, 1961, in Amarillo. She lived in Amarillo most of her life, except four years in the 1970s when they lived, owned and operated a motel in Eagle's Nest, N.M. Dorothy had a great love for the mountains in the Eagle's Nest/ Red River areas. She worked for Region 16 until her retirement. She was a long time member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church as well as Lake Tanglewood Community Church. Dorothy was a long time member of the Desk & Derrick Club, Beta Sigma Phi, as well as the Lake Tanglewood Golf Association. She also loved playing bridge, shopping and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, she loved being a wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt.
After retirement she and her husband enjoyed traveling in their R.V. They enjoyed spending many winters in south Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Southern California. She will be remembered for her love of family, friends and her deep love and faith for her Lord.
Survivors include her husband, R.K. "Red" Deckard Jr. of Amarillo; a daughter, Renee Ashley and husband Jerry; a son, Randy Deckard and wife Jo, all of Amarillo; a sister, Becky Maples and husband Chuck Ashworth; four grandchildren, Bryan, Angela and husband Kevin, Ashley and husband Jared and Megan and husband Nate; five great-grandchildren, Shy'an, Ky'trene, Rowdy, Ashlee and Brody; and four great-great-grandchildren, Marcus, Chelsea, Layk'n and Adler; her nephew, Shon and wife Christy and their children Sterling and McKinley; and her niece, Misty and husband Keith and their children Caleb, Jaci and Addison.
