Dorris Levern Gentry

Dorris Levern Gentry, 85, of Amarillo, passed away from this earthly life into her Heavenly home on November 29, 2022 in Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 02, 2022 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, TX with her beloved niece, LaDena Earp officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 01, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Dorris, known as Mama Dorris or Granny to most, was born on Feb. 10, 1937 to Alton and Fay Earp in Crosbyton, Texas. Nineteen years later she met the love of her life at Hi-D-Ho Drive In in Lubbock. She married her love, David Wesley Gentry in 1956.

Dorris and David had 57 wonderful years together before his passing on November 29, 2013.

They were God’s chosen parents of three children, Kristi, Kristopher and Keith. Mama Dorris cared for hundreds of additional children in the 43 years of her home daycare in Childress, Texas. She loved them all but especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known as Granny to them, she often bragged about them to anyone that would listen. In her retirement years, Dorris loved to put together puzzles, listen to gospel music and love on her spoiled dogs.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorris was preceded in death by a son, Kristopher David Gentry, one brother, M.J. Earp and sister, Joyce Finley.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristi Barber and husband Gary of Amarillo; one son, David Keith Gentry and wife Adriana of Houston; grandchildren, Kolby Barber and wife Kayla, and Kaleb Barber all of Amarillo, Sebastian and Nicolas Gentry of Houston; great-grandchildren, Kyler and Kylee of Amarillo. Dorris also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, Sister-in-laws, Brother-in-laws and beloved friends.
