Douglas Sherwood Black

March 8, 1933 — February 21, 2017

Doug was born on March 8, 1933 in Groom to Samuel and Beulah Black. He was raised in Groom, where he graduated from Groom High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was a torpedo technician until his honorable discharge in 1957. Upon his return, he married his love, Sandra Beth London on December 21, 1957. Doug was employed at Pantex as a production technician for over 30 years, retiring in the late 90's. He was a talented handyman around the house. Doug was a very good friend and was always ready to help out with whatever was needed. Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed time spent with them, especially outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Black of Amarillo; three sons, Jett Black of Amarillo, Randy Black of Amarillo and John Black and wife Stacie of Lorena; a sister, Sybil Brown of Groom; two brothers, Herschel Black and wife Ruth of Hereford and Chubby Black and wife Nita of Hereford; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings, Kenneth, Donnie, Maxine and Jackie. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Groom Ambulance Services, 203 Broadway Ave, Groom, TX 79039.
