Duane Castleberry

Duane Castleberry, 76, of Amarillo, died Monday, July 23, 2018. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Victory Church, 6300 Arden Rd. with Daryl Moore officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Duane was born August 12, 1941 to H.J. and Billie Castleberry. He graduated from Palo Duro High School where he was active in the band. He married Barbara Hall in 1967. He worked for Garner Motors for many years, and was shop foreman at Dennis' Quick Auto for 18 years. He has worked as a diesel mechanic for the last 30 years at Pantex. Duane was president of the Independent Automotive Service Association for three years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed going to the lake and teaching his kids to waterski. He loved stock car racing, and enjoyed riding dirt bikes in earlier years. Duane was very family oriented. He attended all his kid's and grandkid's sporting events and games. Duane's legacy was his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Moore; and two daughters, Alisa Ann and Laurie Kay. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Castleberry; two daughters, Dorinda Creel and husband Mike, and Joy Johnson, all of Amarillo; a sister, Dortha Russell of Ruidoso, NM; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
