Amarillo

Ed Simmons, 58, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, June 24, 2022 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Trinity Baptist Church, 1601 I-40 with Pastor Nate Magloughlin officiating.

Ed was born June 4, 1964 in Lubbock, Texas to James and Shirley Simmons. He attended New Deal High School. He worked as a store manager for Toot-N-Totum, and was manager of Plainview Bowling Center and Eastridge Bowl. Ed has worked at Western Valve for the last 15 years, the past few years as QA manager. He enjoyed his work and thought of his coworkers as family. He played tennis in high school and continued to follow the sport throughout his life.

Ed was a people person; he had a quick wit and an awesome sense of humor. He loved going to garage sales and striking up conversations with pretty much everyone he came in contact with. He was an avid bowler in his earlier years and won three 300 rings for perfect games. He married his wife Emily on June 4, 2013. Ed was all about family… and food. He enjoyed making breakfast for his family, smoking meat, and he especially loved having all the kids over for Sunday night dinners weekly. He was the best “Poppy” to his granddaughter, Haven.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the physicians, PA’s, nurses, aides and staff of BSA Hospital in Amarillo and Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock for the excellent care that Ed received during his illness.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Simmons; his daughter, Mahala Simmons and fiancé Rolando Valtierra of Amarillo; two bonus daughters, Alison Hollabaugh-Stamps and husband Colton Stamps and Molly Rector all of Amarillo; two bonus sons, Christian Burrier of Amarillo and Andrew Burrier of Houston; a brother, Robin Taylor of Amarillo; two sisters, Dena Rowland and husband Craig of Weatherford, TX and Brandy Dozier and husband Ira of Lubbock; his precious granddaughter, Haven Valtierra; and several nieces and nephews.
