Eddie Stallings, 77, of Amarillo, TX passed away on March 23, 2026. Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 30, 2026 at Cox Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Eddie was born on November 8, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas to Stanley and Delores (Roberson) Stallings. He proudly attended Summit Elementary School, Sam Houston Middle School, and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1967. After graduation, Eddie joined the United States Marines and served in Viet Nam where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaing Medal, Combat Action Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart medal. He was never a soldier – he was a MARINE and proudly flew the Marine flag in his front yard. After his military time, Eddie worked at Pioneer Natural Gas Company, until he joined the Amarillo Police Department on April 5, 1979. He worked as a street beat officer for several years and then spent several years on the SWAT team. Eddie later returned to the Uniform division to work the rest of his career on the streets of Amarillo until his retirement in 2012.
Eddie met the love of his life, Ellen Scamahorn, and they married in 1981. They spent the rest of their lives doing things together. In the spring, he enjoyed going on motorcycle trips with Ellen where he would say “Ellen ate dust if we went west or was rained on if we went east”. The summer was spent at their cabin in Grand Mesa, Colorado for relaxation, the beautiful scenery and the cooler weather. Eddie was a classic car enthusiast, having several cars of his own that they took to shows. In the fall, he and Ellen would drive their Camaro to the big car show, Cruising the Coast, that was held in Mississippi. Eddie kept busy in retirement puttering with his cars, his lawn, and projects around the house. He was always ready to help his friends and neighbors with anything he could. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would just “google it!” You couldn’t find a harder worker or better helper than Eddie.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents.
Eddie is survived by Ellen, his wife of 44 years, and his beloved dogs Zach and Molly.
