Edward Rodney Morbitzer

January 17, 1931 — May 11, 2017

Edward Rodney Morbitzer, 86, of Amarillo died Thursday, May 11, 2017. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cox Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Ewing officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Edward was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Amarillo to Hubert and IIa Morbitzer. He was raised in Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, serving as a radar technician until his honorable discharge in 1954. Edward married Shirley Holman on June 24, 1956, in Amarillo. He worked at Texaco Refinery for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986. Edward had a great passion for fishing and flying model airplanes and gliders. He enjoyed camping and fishing trips with his family and friends to New Mexico and area lakes on many occasions and had an extensive collection of fishing equipment and lures. He was a member of Texaco Retirees Club and attended 10th Avenue United Methodist Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Morbitzer; a son, Bert Morbitzer; a daughter, Michelle Wells and husband Terry; and a granddaughter, McKenna Wells, all of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be to National Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank the following health professionals for their excellent care of Edward over the last several years of his life: Dr. Lane Cox, Dr. Timothy Mooring, Dr. Ako Bradford, BSA Hospital, Vibra Hospital, The Arbors, Amarillo Center of Skilled Nursing, Ussery-Roan Veteran's Home and especially Practitioner Craig Perrien at Vibra Hospital.
