Edwin Lee Simmons

August 12, 1949 — June 2, 2025

Amarillo

Edwin “Ed” Lee Simmons roared into life on August 12, 1949, and returned home to Heaven on June 2nd, 2025. Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday June 16, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 1208 S Tyler, with Pastor Robby Barrett officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Ed was born to EC and Lucille Simmons in Oklahoma City, OK. He joined the US Navy as a Seabee in 1969 during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Africa for most of his service time. After his enlistment, he toured the US with his friends on his motorcycle until opening his own business, Audiotronics, on 6th street the famous Route 66. From there, he worked at Pantex for 28 years, and taught vocational classes for electronics at Amarillo College. Ed married the love of his life, Glenna Kay Simmons, on December 30th, 1977. They shared 47 years of genuine love. He loved adventures, and loved to take his family along for the ride. You could catch him fishing in Colorado, riding his Harley to Canada, skiing in New Mexico, catching a river cruise in Germany, or working on one of his many beloved hotrods.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Cirby Simmons (EC) and Lucille Simmons.

He shared his adventures with his love, Glenna, his daughters, Angela Simmons, Sarah Clark and husband Brian, and Karen Dabney, all of Amarillo. His daughters regarded him as the most interesting man in the world, and the best dad.

Although Ed was the original “girl dad”, he has an army of grandsons to carry on his adventurous spirit: Jay Simmons, Braxton Simmons-Walsh, Bennett Simmons, Xander Dabney, Dresden Patton, Sterling Clark, and Slayten Clark, all of Amarillo. He is also survived by his brother Larry and wife Kathy Simmons, of Manhattan, KS, as well as so many good friends and family that loved him and joined in his shenanigans.

Family suggests memorials be made to your local Veterans Administration.
