E.H. "Gene" Klein, Jr. was born on November 10, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas and was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. His parents were E.H. "Gene" Klein and Ruth Lefforge Klein. Gene is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, his two sons, E.H. "Trey" Klein III, his wife Christine and their daughters Madeline and Julia of Belmont MA.; Richard K. "SPIKE" Klein of Olympia Washington and his two sons, Connor and Grady; his step-daughter Misty Buell and her daughter Madison of Cibolo, Texas; his sister, Alice Klein Snook of Amarillo, Texas and her sons John B. Snook & wife Trista of Tampa, Florida and Gene Snook & wife Terry and their children Cameron and Kaitlyn. Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, a brother Richard Paul "Rick" Klein, a step-son Jerry Roles, brother-in-law David B. Snook and a nephew David B. Snook Jr. Gene graduated from Amarillo High in 1948. While in high school he was a member of the golf team and developed a great love of the game. Gene continued playing golf throughout his life and played as often as he could until 2009. He also taught Marilyn to play and they enjoyed the sport together for many years. At the age of 12 Gene joined Boy Scout Troop 13 which was sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church and remained active until he graduated from high school. After he returned from his service in the U.S. Army in Korea, he served as Scoutmaster of the troop for 5 years. After graduating from high school, Gene attended the University of Denver and completed his college education with a BBA and MBA in Business Administration. He was a member of Alpha Epsilon social fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi - the honorary business fraternity. Gene and Marilyn were married on August 15, 1975 and their marriage was a happy one. They lived on Lake Tanglewood for several years before moving to Amarillo. Gene was a long-term member of the Amarillo Executive Club where he served in numerous capacities. He served as Mayor of Lake Tanglewood Village and as a Randall County Commissioner for 2 years. In 2001 Gene and Marilyn moved to New Braunfels, Texas to be closer to their daughter, Misty and granddaughter, Madison. Once settled in New Braunfels, Gene joined the BPOE Lodge and the Eagles Aerie and was active in the golf programs for both groups. He considered it a great pleasure to also belong to the Legends Golf Association at Landa Park where he served as President for 1 year. Gene was a member of New Braunfels Presbyterian Church. Gene will be missed by many. He was well loved by all who knew him and whose lives he touched. The family is requesting memorials be sent to the charity of your choice.
